Testing

Tests for maximum productivity

Turbomachines is capable of testing and inspecting turbo machinery components, either separately or after performing repairs.

We can consult you on which tests are absolutely necessary and which additional inspections are recommended.

For this, we will be in close contact with your engineers and decide together which tests are absolutely necessary and which additional inspections are recommended.

An overview of some typical test- and inspection processes:

Testing servo valves

Hydraulic servo valves control the steam supply into your steam turbines. For these servo valves Turbomachines offers you a complete factory overhaul. All findings and recommended repairs will be discussed in detail with you before beginning any repairs. You will decide which tests are performed.

For servo valve repairs, we also recommend a final function test as the control pressures must be proportional to the valve lift and the steam flow must be adjusted accordingly.

If you do not wish a factory overhaul, but would rather want the servo valves serviced on your system onsite, then the adjustments during the cold commissioning  will have to be made by an experienced commissioning engineer.

Test of Emergency Stop Valves

Besides digital turbine protection and the earlier mechanical-hydraulic emergency tripping, emergency stop valves (ESV or Trip Valve) are the most important safety elements of steam turbines. That is why regular maintenance and a subsequent function test on the system are obligatory.

Turbomachines also offers an alternative factory overhaul of the trip valves. The repairs for this depend on the findings and are performed after approval by the client.

We will then perform the important function test with partial lift and full lift on a hydraulic test bench.

Rotor balancing

Turbomachines offers balancing of rotors of pumps, compressors and steam turbines as part of the repairs.

For simple applications and fast problem solutions, often a low speed balancing is sufficient. Here, a low rotating speed of approx. 400 - 500 rotations per minute is used to check the balance of the rotor and it is directly corrected.

However, if compressors and steam turbines are concerned, then we basically recommend a high speed balancing at operating speeds. Depending on the application, the rotating speeds can be in the range of 1,500 - 30,000 rotations per minute.

Here, we test your rotor in a balancing system over several vacuum test runs. As there are only a few balancing systems available in different countries, Turbomachines takes care of the complete coordination.

An important advantage of vacuum balancing systems is the inspection and adjustment  of the trip speed. It can accordingly be tested here, as well as the still higher overspeed which represents an additional proof of component strength for the rotor.

Testing hydraulic control blocks

Hydraulic control- and safety blocks must be tested for pressure and leakages. Optionally, we also test the switching functions of the magnetic valves. Naturally, we will not perform any testing without your consent. You will decide which tests are to be performed and reduce accordingly unnecessary costs and maintenance time.

For the function test of the installed proportional valves, we can optionally record the pressure curves through the input signal on the block. In normal cases, a factory test is performed by the manufacturer of the prop valves. You will receive appropriate documentation as proof.

Turbomachines provided us with parts for turbines and compressors in OEM quality, quickly, reliably and at much lower prices than those from the manufacturer.
